Just a Thought – Will MP’s be using AV to vote on “Reform”

February 9th, 2010 fitaloon No comments

As MP’s vote on whether or not they should vote to have a referendum on moving to AV, I just wondered if we could first of all ask them to start voting using AV for everything in Parliament and also have secret rather than whipped votes.

We could then have laws that were the least unpopular. Sounds good to me. Should also suit the dithering and delaying Gordon Brown.

Gordon Brown is the  road-block to proper reform.

Cameron shows the Deluded Gordon Brown the Way Forward

February 6th, 2010 fitaloon No comments

David Cameron has just sent out this video of him talking about how Parliament should be reformed.

Having watched it and compared it to how Gordon Brown portrays this issue is hugely enlightening. You just know that Gordon has one conviction and that is he hates Tories. All the rest is just Chaff.

He reveals how Gordon Brown has blocked Tony Wright’s suggested reforms. He thinks that Tuesday’s vote on AV should be scrapped and so should the half term holiday. Instead, he says, parliament should spend the week debating how it should be reformed.

He’ll be expanding on all these issues in a speech on Monday.

I’d rather Cameron was patient than brave – Matthew Parris

February 5th, 2010 fitaloon No comments

A rather good article from Matthew Parris in response to Fraser Nelson’s more strident thoughts.

His summing up is correct. The Tories need to be patient to effect the real change we want to make to this country. Going in with all guns blasting will not work.

Yes, political courage is needed; but no, all that is needed is not political courage. Patience, reticence and good timing are needed too, and discretion can be the better part of valour. If (like me) you are sure that David Cameron does not lack valour, and if you’re confident his heart and head are in a good Tory place, then give him that discretion
