The Daily Mail speculates that the Damian Green affair might be Gordon Brown’s Watergate. It might well be if it carries on and gains legs as it has this weekend. Despite all “Spliffer” Smith’s attempts to portray Green as the Devil incarnate, all we see is the desperate misinformation of a dying goverment and the stench of corruption.
Just in case you don’t think this is going to be a problem, just realise that the Big Feartie, our own Macavity the Cat has yet again disappeared from view, preferring to put out his minions to try and save his hide. This is the man who has now written two books about “Courage”, this is the man that is supposed to be our “Moses”, this is the man who is the great Leader of the World’s Economic Recovery, so where is he when he is needed?
Yet again this man is cowering in his Bunker hoping this will just blow over and that he can avoid all or any of the blame for the actions of his government. Even his beloved Sun is turning on him calling this Country a Police State , here and now.
And yet again we hear that the real story may yet be still to be released. The murky goings on of this Government and it’s Political minions is starting to unravel. The jobs for the boys and the cash for honours are coming home to roost not a moment to soon. Let us hope that they don’t reach into the Police or we are all in trouble.
Could this be Brown’s Watergate? | Mail Online
Apparently Tony Blair is giving up his right to a resignation honours list, the first former Prime Minister to do so.
No wonder, almost all the people who paid for one with a backhander, have now got one, and Tony (Who) Blair has slipped right off the celebrity list, so no-one is toadying up to him any longer to get a reward.
There is also the two other points
- The honours would have had to have been vetted by an Independent Body, the House of Lords Appointments Commission. What fun they would have had rejecting a few of the more suspect honourees!
- The fact that receiving an honour now from Tony Blair would be more like getting a formal acknowledgment that you were toadying briber of the lowest sort.
Tony Blair refuses to produce an honours list – Telegraph
According to the Telegraph:
“Make no mistake, Scotland Yard was informed that Mr Blair would resign as Prime Minister if he was interviewed under caution,” said a source. “They were placed in a very difficult position indeed.”
Just imagine if I said I was to resign my post at work to the police rather than be interviewed under caution. I would rightly be laughed out the door and told to go and resign. So we now have two levels of justice. One for the rest of us and one for those in government.
Just some more of the hypocrisy that this Labour Party uses to hang on in government.
Police told Blair would resign if cautioned

The BBC reports the defence used in the following case:
A man accused of a stealing underwear from a shop in a knifepoint raid believed he was a female elf at the time, Belfast Crown Court has heard.
It went on to say:
Robert Boyd, 45, from Broadlands in Carrickfergus, is accused of holding up staff at the Orchid shop in Belfast disguised in a wig, hat and glasses.
He told the court he had been involved in a role-playing game at the time, and his character was an elf named Beho.
He denies robbery but says he may have blurred reality and fantasy.
He also said it “could be right” that Beho had intended to rob the shop – although he told the jury he could not remember what was going through his mind at the time.
I can think of a few other people in our government who might need to use a similar type of defence shortly.
Hat Tip to Yokel on PB for this gem.
UPDATE. Elf Defence fails
BBC NEWS Northern Ireland Elf defence for ‘lingerie thief’

The BBC were last night stopped from broadcasting an item about the “Cash for Honours” scandal that has Tony Blair’s fingerprints all over it (The Scandal that is).
The Attorney General, Lord Goldsmith, a well known lackey of Tony Blair, obtained the injunction on Friday night at a hearing which lasted about two hours at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. Lord Goldsmith’s office said he had acted
“Completely independently of government” on the matter.
Back in the land of reality various people have speculated on who the injuction might cause embarrassment to. Benedict White implicates Lord Levy, hints from Iain Dale point at him also.
Guido meanwhile points to Ruth Turner or Sleazy Levy. Interestingly the BBC early on had a photo of Ruth Turner on their article.
My take is it’s probably both of them with more than a hint of Tony Blair in there as well.
Charges relating to this now look imminent.
