Mountains of Debt

May 25th, 2010 fitaloon No comments

This image should be displayed to all supporters of Labour to get just an idea of what you  have lumbered our country with after 13 years of profligacy.

The trouble with this picture is that

  • It underestimates our debt. It is nearer one trillion, that’s an extra ten percent or 17 times the cuts announced yesterday
  • It ignores the fact that the mountain will continue growing, like an active volcano, for at least the next 7-10 years as we try to get the budget deficit left by Labour under control. The mountain could be 50% larger in 5 years.
  • It ignores all Gordon’s creative accounting and “off-book” deals such as PFI. How much they add is anybody’s guess, mine is about 10-15% or 100-150 billion.
  • It ignores the rather large Public Pensions black hole.

So whilst you regard the image,   just remember that this is just the current peak of the Volcano. It will grow, and depending upon how things go it will either gradually wear away as we get the debt and deficit under control  or it will explode and we will really suffer for Labour and Brown’s 13 years of Profligacy.

Better a wee bit of Austerity now, than complete collapse.

The Rainbow Alliance

May 10th, 2010 fitaloon 1 comment

Just a reminder to those who favour the “Rainbow” Alliance.

There is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, believe it or not it is a fairy story. Those minor parties such as the SNP and Plaid need to remember this when having any discussions with the duplicitous Labour Party, any promises are there to be broken, any bribes money offered can and will be withdrawn on the merest pretext.

One other thing to remember is that when dealing with Mandelson the Snake is too look for the poison hidden with the prize, it will always be there just not where you expect it to be.

Oh and watch out for Gordon withdrawing his offer to go, when all goes to pot, he will phrase it as being in the “National Interest” when in fact he means his own interest.

Oh and to those Nice Lib Dems don’t forget that you offered the UK a “New Politics”, I see that lasted all of  a weekend, “Old Politics” soon returned when offered a scent of Power.

In the meantime Politics is watching a disaster unfold as we argue not about how to sort out the Economy, but how we might vote sometime in the future. A subject so vital that it barely registers on the scale of important things facing whatever future government we might have. It is time to get real and set about sorting out the mess Gordon has left us in.

And one final piece of advice for Adam Boulton , next time when Mr Campbell is obnoxious, just pan him one, the rest of the country will pay your fine and elevate you to a god-like status. Campbell’s games would not be allowed in a decent government.

Britain’s Got Talent: Simon Cowell backs Conservative Talent

Simon Cowell Backs David CAmeron and the Conservatives in GE2010

Simon Cowell a man who knows how to get people voting has backed David Cameron and the Conservatives.

I believe he is the prime minister Britain needs at this time,” Cowell wrote in the Sun newspaper.

“He has substance and the stomach to navigate us through difficult times.

The endorsement will be a blow to Prime Minister Gordon Brown, fighting to win a fourth term for his Labour Party, who has often spoken of his fondness for Cowell shows such as “The X Factor” and “Britain’s Got Talent.”

The impresario recognised Brown was “very sincere” but expressed doubts that the Labour leader had the energy to live up to the task that would face him if he won the election.

I have met David on two occasions. I liked him immediately. I trust him and he was very quick to commit to helping with a serious funding deficit for a children’s hospice charity I am involved with,” he wrote.

“I have always trusted my gut instinct — and this was a guy who I thought would do the right things for this country.”

Of Brown, he said: “Gordon is a very sincere man who I respect. He has given a lot of support for our shows and artists but I worry after all of this time how much more energy he can devote to a huge task ahead of him.”

But he dismissed Nick Clegg, leader of the centrist Liberal Democrats, as “made for TV.” Clegg’s party saw its popularity surge after his strong performances in US-style televised debates.

“We are not talent show judges picking pretty-sounding contestants now. The future government of our country is so much more important than that,” he wrote.

Cowell called for a “British dream” to emulate that of the United States, where he has also made a successful career.

“The majority of our wealth of talented people aren’t being given the chance they need to grow and bloom at the moment,” he said.

Gordon About to Slobber

The title of the story tells the story. David Hare writing in the Guardian has this to say:

Gordon Brown‘s grave was dug many months ago but for some reason – who knows why? – he’s refusing to jump in. On a freezing Bank Holiday Monday, just before the prime minister appeared at a rain-lashed Ipswich marina, the weather cleared up and the sun came out. It’s such a long time since Doctor Brown had even a whiff of good luck that you wondered whether he’d recognize it when it came along.

Oh dear such fulsome praise for our soon-to-be former PM. he continues with this:

In person – and this was the first time I’d seen him in 20 years – Brown’s flesh appears weirdly neon-lit and his hair is snow-dusted in a way appropriate to a man named World Statesman of the Year by the Appeal of Conscience Foundation in 2009.

Oops surely it will get better for the soon-to-be ex-leader of Labour. No sorry it continues:

A room packed only with hand-picked Labour supporters was never likely to prove much of a challenge, but questions like: “What do you regard as Labour’s greatest achievements?” were sycophantic beyond the call of compassion. However, Brown’s mood was sincerely upbeat – “I am fighting for my life”, he said – and his language attractively formal – “What have I got to report to you?”

Gosh, surely he must have something good to say about our soon to be ex-leader. Nope it continues:

A weird and silly day, but at its centre a man who, in misfortune, exerts a real fascination. You can interpret the prime minister’s good spirits either as the fatalism which comes when you know the game is up, or as the confidence of someone who believes he knows something we don’t.

Either way, my mind went to Chekhov. I have never seen anyone in whom cheerfulness is so profoundly sad.

Never mind I’m sure the Guardian will say something good about him soon. Perhaps on Friday when he is an ex-resident of No10.

Gordon Brown Gives Up

May 3rd, 2010 fitaloon No comments

Gordon Brown has given up any hope of a Labour victory and is desperately trying to hang onto power with a desperate plea to his bestest friend Nick (I’m from Sheffield) Clegg.

Writing in the Guardian Cif (isn’t that a Kitchen Cleaner) he has this to say to Clegg

Don’t kid yourself, Nick. No Lib Dem I know sees any Tory progressive bond. Those in Labour-Tory marginals should back us if they want to see real reform and keep alive the ideals of the good society.

Deluded Brown then goes on to say

I know that I am the only leader who has a plan to secure this new era of economic change, built upon fairness and sustainability. And I want to seize this moment to place progressive ideals at the heart of a new constitutional and political settlement.

So the new plan is vote for Clegg and I will still be the leader as Lib Dems want me as to lead them in a hung parliament. I think they may have something say about this.

This is the final act in the death throes of a dying party.
