With a young son soon to be coming up to an age when he can drive this article by the BBC will perhaps open his eyes to the dangers of driving and perhaps make him think a little. There is a searchable map and interactive statistics.
One fact he should read is this.
This decrease has helped saved lives and reduced injuries, says Professor Stradling, particularly in built up areas. The picture in out-of-town areas is less encouraging.
Here the statistics have remained stubbornly high, for reasons less related to outright speeding, and more to do with driving too fast for the conditions.
Single vehicle, loss of control, crashes are very common on rural single carriageway roads, particularly where a young driver is behind the wheel.

The latest parental milestone on the worry chart is now reached.
That photo should be given to every 17 year old before they start driving lessons.
Apparently up here in the North East they are now showing our youngsters some very hard-hitting pictures / videos during drive safer presentations. Apparently some are bad enough to cause some of the them to faint / throw up. Anything the police can do to try and ensure our youngsters take heed is fine with me.
I agree with fitaloon’s comments, the more we educate such young drivers with hard facts then we may just change the attitude of some of our road users.
However it’s not just the young generation, after all there is no fool like an old fool as the saying go’s. Unfortunately we will never eradicate all accidents but educating issues such as these are a good step.
